Water Fasting: Haitians swear if you don't eat for a day, you could die, LOL!

Many Haitians say if you don't eat for a day, "gas ap anpare w" (gas will overtake you, so to speak). What exactly do they mean by that?

Did you know: Your body has a special hormone whose job it is to let you know when it's time to eat!

In your body there is a hunger hormone called ghrelin, functions as a neuropeptide in the central nervous system.

Basically, ghrelin is what signals your brain to tell you your stomach is empty and it is time to eat.

When your stomach is empty, ghrelin is secreted. When your stomach is stretched, ghrelin secretion stops.

Ghrelin acts on hypothalamic brain cells both to increase hunger, and to increase gastric acid secretion and gastrointestinal motility to prepare the body for food intake.

Perhaps that's that Haitians mean when they say "gas ap anpare w."

Now try to asking a Haitian to do a water fast for a few days, in other words drink nothing but water for a few days, and he will raise the roof on fire!

Ou fou oswa w anraje?
