Destination Chile - Young Haitians don't really want to leave Haiti, they need JOBS

A young man in my neighborhood wanted nothing more than to leave the country, go to Chile. Suddenly he changed his mind. What happened?

"I thought you went to Chile," I told the young man whom I had not seen for a while.

He replied: "Oh no far from it... I never wanted to leave the country, I was dying to find a job."

Apparently, there is a new construction company in town to build the main road leading to Northern Haiti and he found himself a job working for that company.

You should see him. walking around with pride. He is no longer a a "Chomeco." He no longer has time to visit his "Baz Domino" where I often used to see him. Nope! He is having other dreams. He wants to raise $75,000 Haitian Gourdes to start a business.

Go figure. Everyone thought his dream was elsewhere while all along he just wanted to live like a man.

Where is the pride in being a grown man, walking aimlessly, unable to take care of yourself and your responsibilities?

What do you think about that?

Some of these Haitian really need jobs in Haiti but some just want to leave at any cost.

Some don't want to work either I have a business and sometimes you can't find Haitian to work. you give them job and all they want to do is sit around and do nothing.

You got to stand over them for them to do what they are paid for.

My take on

Un jeune homme de mon quartier ne voulait rien de plus que de quitter le pays, d'aller au Chili.

Tout à coup, il a changé d'avis.

Qu'est-il arrivé?
