Diaspora, Will you Ever go Back to your Homeland?

Were you born in the United States or did you come here? If you came here, are you planning to go back where you came from?

If you were born here in the United States, do you ever sit down and listen to your parents as they reminisce about the little corner in the word where they came from.

Do you ever get curious?...

Do you ever ask yourself "What if...?"

I raise this question because I know many of you left your country for one reason or another.

  • Some of us came here to work.
  • Some came to survive.
  • Some came to learn.

Whatever the case may be, there's a part of you that says "I am staying right here"... Yet there's another part that simply miss the other life... the simple life... the little things.

Let's take Haiti for example:

I remember a time when I use live there, things were so simple. When it's time to take a shower, there's no fighting who gets in the shower first. All you have to do is walk down the river and take a nice bath.

My father used to take a nap right before he had dinner.

I would wake up in the morning, me, my brothers and sister, and we would watch the sun rise.

Yes... I have Cable, I have 24 hour internet access, I have a cell too... but I miss the little things...

I miss the sound of the roosters in the morning.

Will I ever go back?... We'll find out.

What about you?... Will you ever go back?

I am 24 and left Haiti 17 years ago. You may be saying that i was one of the luckiest child in the continent because i have been adopted. For this i thank Lord daily.

In the other hand, although i was very young i feel i have left a part of me behind, for i had a dear brother whom i remember was like a father to me. Of course i have been looking for him for years but thought that i will never find him. And returning to Haiti would mean looking for him deeper than ever, and i am scare also that i would be disapointed for a reason that i do not really

Mr Gabriel, in a recent conversation told me that he was 67 yrs old, enjoying his retirement in Sunny Florida.

He would rather be in Haiti, because Haiti should have benefited to his retirement.

At his age he is into a spending mode, living in Haiti he would have certainly hire two maids,1 butler if i can call it like that. The infrastucture is just not there, but for him it is a struggle...
