New Haiti Road Network - The Center-Artibonite Beltway (Boucle Centre-Artibonite)
I am so excited about this that I don't know where to start... So let me try my best to explain this to you from my vantage point...
While living in Hinche Haiti over the past couple of years, I've seen with my own eyes all the work that is being done in the roads that lead in and out of Hinche to Cap-Haitien, Thomassique and Mirebalais. I am so greatful for the simple fact that I can leave Hinche in the morning, go take care of business in Port-au-Prince and be back in Hinche dinner....
But wait... There's more...
I also heard about road projects announced that would cut through Maissade to St Michel de l'Atalaye. For the first time, during the Kanaval season in Gonaives, I got to drive from from Hinche through Mirebalais, La Chapelle, Verrette, to Pont Sonde. It made me realize how close Hinche and the Plateau Centrale is to rice fields of "Latinobit" and how much closer Hinche would be if only I could drive through Maissade, St. Michel de l'Atalaye, Marchand Dessalines to Gonaives.
Suddenly... Yesterday, I read a this PDF document online about a plan for a road sytem, The Center-Artibonite Look / Boucle Centre-Artibonite, that will me all this and much more possible... All the road project, they are true and a 50 Million dollar grant has just been approved to put it all together...
And by that I mean a road system that will rehabilitate all the primary roads -- Route Nationale yo -- the secondary roads, i.e. roads that branch off the national road to other cities, and d a series of agricultural roads branching off these roads...
I encourage you to read these Documents thoroughly to fully grasp the idea and to see for yourself how big it is...

Here is what I read...
Haiti's Center-Artibonite Loop will cover 14 municipalities in 3 provinces (departments), The Artibonite, the North, and the Plateau Central... The urban centers of 10 of these municipalies are on the loop itself...
This well organized "urban network" will connect to the port cities of Saint-Marc and Gonaives to the west, Cap-Haitien in the north, Port-au-Prince to the south, and also to the Dominican Republic in the east can be a real development tool:
- By building a framework conducive to investment economic development and particularly complementary agro-food activities agricultural production;
- Streamlining and promoting rapid outlets of agricultural production;
- By providing residents with a living environment and a level of sufficient equipments located in a balance between rural and urban world providing services and employment.
Take a minute to read through the PDFs... It is not easy to summarize a good idea without copying and pasting... So read the PDF and of course...
