Greed Vs. Ambition - The Haitian Version

Article by Woodring Saint Preux

What's more important to you?
Information that can put money in your pocket or...
a party ticket for the next Sweet Micky party?

FACT: The average Haitian person spends $25.00 to see Sweet Micky and T-Vice perform at the local night club.

FACT: The average Haitian man will spend $40.00 in that party buying Heineken and Hennessey.

FACT: The average Haitian man spends $12.00 for a plate of "Lambis" at the local Haitian restaurant.

FACT: The average Haitian woman spends $40.00 buying all kinds of stuff that they don't need just because there's a one day sale in Macy's.

What's wrong with this picture?

It's great that you support your Haitian band, the bear maker from Holland, you local Haitian business, and the big shopping malls.

But...

  • How much are you willing to invest on a business opportunity?
  • How much are you willing to invest on new information that can put money in your pocket?
  • How much are you willing to invest to secure your retirement and the future of your kids.

Oh! You're so greedy!

That's what the idiots say a person with ambition. They call you greedy and the only way to prove to them that you're not greedy is...

"Don't you make any effort to better your life!"

The problem is... in order to prove to them that you're not greedy, you must prove that you're stupid.

From now on I want you to know the difference:

FACT: When you have the desire to accomplish a particular goal, whether that goal is financial, spiritual, or educational, you are an ambitious person and that's GOOD!

Not to be confused with "ambitye", a word most Haitians use on a negative way to say that you want more than what you have.

FACT: If you want too much, If you want more than what's available, then you're a greedy person.

The word Haitians use to signify greed is "Vicye" but most of the time, they are referring to food or a freebie.

FACT: There's nothing wrong with wanting more than what you have as long as you're willing to work for it.

  • You want to live in a mansion? GO for it!
  • You want to drive a Lexus? GO for it!

BUT... do not work 2 jobs to pay for your Lexus and your mention. If you're doing that, you are clearly living WAY ABOVE your means.

My friend, it's time you learned about delayed gratification.

Delayed gratification means:

  • Doing the hard work first.
  • Finding the things you've been putting off doing and doing those first.
  • Earning the money before you spend it!
  • NOT rewarding yourself as soon as you get your paycheck.

INSTEAD... start a business. Look for ways to make money at home.

If you really want to enjoy your life, you need more than just money; you need time as well.

If you sacrifice all the time you have in order to make that money. how can you possibly enjoy it?
