In Haitian Creole, we call it "Yanm," Igname en Francais, we consume it a lot in Haiti but in all my years, no one ever tells about the health benefits and nutritional values of yams... So I did some research and let me tell you... You should definitely add yam to your diet.

Here is what I found out...

Yam is a good food to eat if you want more dietary fiber. Yam is a good source of complex carbohydrates

Dr Rachna Pande, a specialist in internal medicine told the New York times:

"Yam is a good source of complex carbohydrates and provides calories without necessarily raising the blood sugar level to cause worry for even the diabetics."

Yams are high in fiber fiber which is important for proper bowel movements, the good doctor said. Eating yams improves digestion thus minimizing complications that may result from constipation. Yams reduces the risk of colon cancer.

Eating yams helps to reduce LDL cholesterol.

I dont know about you but I am convinced... As a matter of fact I've already added yams to my list of must eat vegetables.

What do you think about that?
