Fear of Criticism: Can a Haitian man live in his community with the simple wardrobe of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg?
Would a Haitian dare to dress like Mark Zuckerberg everyday?
Jan Ayisyen pale moun mal pou yo ta we w mete menm rad la sou ou chak jou.
I came to spend some time with my Haitian mother in New York. I brought a couple of blue and black jeans and a few plain t-shirts.
I travel a lot so I know how to pack a backpack for 1 week.
Within a few days my mother asked me: "So, how much longer are gonna be wearing these jeans for?"
Mom has not travelled for awhile and she doesn't realize that, when you're flying Spirit Airlines only your laptop bag is free. Carry-on is like 50 bucks.
Why would I bring with me a whole bunch of clothes that I can buy when I arrive at my destination if I ever need it.
So I told her: "Mom, whatever you want to buy for me, I will wear in for you but I travel light."
Long story short, my Haitian mother will never get used to my Marc Zuckerberg style of wardrobe.
