Haitian runners ready to take on NYC Marathon

Five Haitian runners are set to take on the New York City Marathon on Sunday. The three men and two women, making their first visit to the U.S., are being sponsored by J/P Haitian Relief Organization, a nonprofit started by actor Sean Penn after the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti in 2010.

Each runner won a place on the team by taking top spots in a qualifying race this summer in their country.

Carline Lamour says the physical and mental hardships she endured while training as her country rebuilds were worth the chance to compete in the marathon. She says the race will fulfill a dream and expose her to new experiences.

The five Haitians join five other runners, including actress Pamela Anderson, to make up Team J/P HRO.
