ENGLISH: Haitian commerce relies heavily on the movement of people from the countryside of Haiti who come to town once or twice a week to buy and sell good. They bring fruits, vegetable and poultry to sell, they buy what they need to use and sell back home, something the locals call 'Jou MACHE'. Whenever this flow of people is slowed down or stops, the flow of money is also affected.

ENGLISH: If for example it rains the day before 'Jou MACHE' the flow of people from the country side almost comes to a halt and businesses in town do not make money that day. That of course means BIG merchants in Port-au-Prince don't make money either since no one places orders to replenish their inventory. in other words, the flow of money in Haiti depends heavily on the flow of people to and from the countryside as well...
