Coca-Cola New Haiti Project To Help 25, 000 Mango Farmers

The Coca-Cola company is launching a new program to help 25,000 mango farmers in Haiti. Coke is also launching Odwalla Haiti Hope Mango Lime-Aid, a new juice drink that will be available in the United States and in Canada made with Fresh Mangoes from Haiti.

Did you know?

Coke has been operating in Haiti since 1927. All Coca Cola products made in Haiti are bottled by Coke's bottler in Haiti, Brasserie de la Couronne.

Well... the latest Coca Cola news coming from Haiti is that they are about to invest $3.5 million in the "Operation Haiti Hope" Project.

Coupled with other contributions from other Coca Cola partners an the Inter-American Development Bank, an estimated $7.5 million will be invested in Haiti over a 5-year period.

Is that a big investment for a huge company like Coca Cola?

Well it's a good start...

And I hope there are more joint ventures like this to come in Haiti because it involves long term agricultural employment in Haiti and export of Haiti mangoes.

The goal of this investment is to double the income of mango farmers in Haiti and to help owners of mango trees in the country side to see their mango tree as a source of income instead of "JUST WOOD" that can be cut down, burnt, and converted to charcoal.

Here is how it works, it is basically a joint venture under which Coke will buy 100% of Haitian mango production for the next three years in conjunction with the launch of the Odwalla Mango beverage.

If it become a success, who knows what long term relationship will come out of it.

Hi Julie, I'm sorry to hear that. The Coke Zero ad, the first video player on the page, is the new ad that dtubeed during the Coke Zero 400. The second one is the old one which I did say was the old video.

As for your comments about me using a press pass to meet drivers and take pictures.

The only driver that I've actually met in person is Travis Kvapil, and that was when I was interviewing him. I take obtaining and using media credentials very seriously.

THE FACT A DEAL WAS MADE FOR COCA COLA TO GET XCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO HAITI'S ENTIRE MANGO CROP IS NOT GOOD AT ALL. HAITIAN MANGO FARMERS CAN DO FAR GREATER BUSINESS THROUGHOUT THE GLOBE.

Mango is Haiti's one of the best exported produce coupled with Coca Cola as a distributor of a new drink with natural fruit, not fat plus added calcium and vitamin A. It looks like it could be a winner in terms of marketing.

My only objection is the term "Haiti Hope" which makes it looks like a non-profit effort.

In this case the perceived quality and therefore pricing may be minimized as the international markets may be reluctant to pay more. The name "odwalla" does not inspire a taste-bud calling.
